  12. This document henceforth applies to all of my software unless otherwise
  13. specified in the accompanying documentation supplied with a specific
  14. piece of software.  Changing this document is strictly prohibited.

  16. Introduction

  18. This document was written just after I started writing public domain
  19. and shareware software and releasing it to the computer community at large
  20. and I wanted to make sure that my software was ending up as it should be,
  21. that no one was abusing it.  Thus: software license equals (hopefully)
  22. a clearer situation for all.
  23. The license agreements of many software companies in general attempt to
  24. keep user's rights to a minimum in an attempt to eradicate software
  25. piracy and fraud.  This license, whilst attempting to ensure that I don't
  26. get ripped off, tries to be as free as possible so that as many people
  27. as possible can get hold of the software.

  29. Terms used in this document
  30. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  31. "free software"     : not free in price, but deregulated software - that is,
  32.                       anyone can copy it and pass it on without restriction.
  33. "the program"       : the ENTIRE application, including any resource files,
  34.                       documentation, sprites, templates, scripts, etc.,
  35.                       whether this is specified in the text or otherwise.
  36. "the licensee"      : anyone owning a copy of the software.

  38. Terms and conditions (ie the license proper)

  40.     i   This license agreement applies to all programs or other works which
  41.         contain a notice placed by the copyright holder stating that it is
  42.         distributed under this license and is subject to the terms and
  43.         conditions thereof.
  44.    ii   The licensee may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the program
  45.         and any source code supplied as it is received, in any medium,
  46.         provided that the copyright message is conspicuously and
  47.         appropriately published on each copy of the software.  In many cases
  48.         this will already have been done by the original copyright holder
  49.         and as the licensee all you will need to do is copy such a message
  50.         which will usually be contained in the documentation.
  51.   iii   No warranty, save any expressly stated in any accompanying
  52.         documentation, applies to the program to the extent permitted by

  65.         including, but not limited to, loss of data or data being rendered

  67.         or a failiure of the program to operate satisfactorily with any

  70.     v   The licensee or any other party is not permitted to modify, or
  71.         take parts, in whole or in part,  of the program for inclusion in
  72.         any other program, item of software, or any other product.
  73.    vi   The program must be redistributed in the same form as it was
  74.         received with all files intact.  See also paragraph ii above.
  75.   vii   The copyright at all times remains with the original author,
  76.         and under no circumstances will this copyright be given up.
  77.         The copyright holder reserves all rights to the program, asserts
  78.         the moral right to be identified as the author of the program,
  79.         and reserves the right to alter any documentation, program source
  80.         code, or conditions of distribution without prior notice.
  81.  viii   The licensee may not copy, modify, sublicense, distribute, or
  82.         transfer the program except as expressly provided under this license.
  83.         Any attempt to copy, modify, sublicense, distribute, or
  84.         transfer the program outside the terms of this agreement is void
  85.         and will terminate your right to use the program under this

  93.     x   Each time the program is distributed, the recipient automatically
  94.         receives a license from the copyright holder to copy or distribute
  95.         the program subject to the terms and conditions as enumerated in
  96.         this license.  The licensee may not impose any further restrictions
  97.         on the recipient's right to exercise the rights granted herein.
  98.    xi   All source code to the programs is copyrighted to the original
  99.         author and it is not permitted to use it, in part or in whole,
  100.         in your own programs or products without prior written permission.
  101.         If you have received the source code from the author, except in
  102.         part of the program, it should not be distributed.
  103.   xii   It is not permitted to distribute this program for profit or
  104.         commercial gain.  Any party found to be doing so is liable to
  105.         prosecution under civil law.
  106. If you are a private individual, your responsibilities and rights are
  107. merely those enumerated above; you are allowed the pass the program on
  108. to your friends etc., free of charge.  Public Domain libraries, SySops,
  109. etc., should read the sections below.

  111. Public Domain Libraries
  112. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  113. If you run a Public Domain library then this section is relevant to you.
  114. There are a few more restrictions extra to those shown above which are
  115. relevant to all users, namely:-
  116.     i   You must distribute ALL files as supplied with the program from
  117.         the original author.
  118.    ii   As an exception to the above clause, if the program contains a
  119.         large ammount of source code, then the documentation may say
  120.         that it is unnecessary to distribute the code if you do not
  121.         wish to do so.  IN ALL CASES THE DOCUMENTATION OVERRULES THIS
  122.         LICENSE.  Most programs come without source code anyway.
  123.   iii   ALL Public Domain libraries are licensed to include the program
  124.         in their catalogues.  To do otherwise, in the opinion of the
  125.         author, promotes a small group of better-known Public Domain
  126.         libraries over other, smaller, less well-known ones and restricts
  127.         competition.  This is the last thing that the author wishes
  128.         to promote.
  129.    iv   You may charge an ammount of money for the disc containing the
  130.         program.  This is at your discretion.
  131.     v   Please try to ensure that you have the latest version of the
  132.         program: this is not always possible, however, if you write to
  133.         me at the address given above, I will send you the latest version.
  134. Please note that you are also subject to the private individuals
  135. regulations as given above.

  137. Bulletin Boards (SySops)
  138. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  139. If you host a bulletin board then this section is revelant to you.
  140.     i   As a bulletin board, it is not necessary to distribute source
  141.         code, to save on download time.  You must include all other
  142.         files, though.
  143.    ii   Please try to ensure that you have the latest version of the
  144.         program: this is not always possible, however, if you write to
  145.         me at the address given above, I will send you the latest version.

  147. Site Licenses
  148. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  149. This is a single user license.  If you are really paranoid about FAST then
  150. it is possible to obtain a site license from me (but there's no reason
  151. why you should) or if you want it for some other reason, then you can
  152. get one.  For any site license, simply send £5.00 to me at the address
  153. given at the top of this file.  Seriously - don't bother for PD programs.
  154. My ShareWare programs DO need a site license, though.  Please state which
  155. program you want a license for.
  156.  
  157. ShareWare
  158. ~~~~~~~~~
  159. I do write ShareWare as well as Public Domain, and any general distribution
  160. ShareWare (ie the unregistered versions) are subject to the restrictions
  161. laid down in this file.  The registered versions a counted as FULL,
  162. COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE and must not be distributed to anyone.  Doing so with
  163. a registered version is PIRACY and THEFT.  If you're using a registered
  164. ShareWare program on more than one computer you need a site license, see
  165. the section on Site Licenses.
